The Strikeforce Amazing Race / First Gathering of 2009
The first Strikeforce gathering of the year started with an act of servitude towards the Church by helping to clear the main stage and moving the equipment from Expo Hall 1 back to Expo Hall 8. The helpers then met up with the rest at the War Memorial Park in City Hall to kickstart the Amazing Race, Strikeforce in the later afternoon. 7 groups were formed and briefed about the rules and regulations of the game before they head out from the War Memorial Park towards achieving their goal. Points were awarded to groups who have completed the tasks and performed the optional bonus rounds. Creativity was also the key towards the completion of the tasks and bonus rounds, as the most creative team will also be recognized.
Meanwhile, the function room of Seasons park condo is being prepped and ready to receive the participants for a good dinner after a fun-filled afternoon, as those that could not join the Amazing Race arrived early and were hanging out over a game of bridge or pool.
With the arrival of the last team, Boon had everyone’s attention and started the evening program with a prayer of grace. Everyone got their food and settled down, as Boon started to play a DVD titled “Pulse: A STOMP Odyssey”, and requested for everyone to watch the video as they eat.
“Pulse: A STOMP Odyssey” is a celebration of the global beat, an exploration of the sights and sounds of continents and cultures, guided by the internationally acclaimed performers of the sensational stage show STOMP. Of course, the video was played for a reason. Other than allowing us to discover the percussive roots within the various cultures of the world, each group had to re-enact a scene from the video that left the deepest impression on them.
Next up, we had 2 Strikeforce members, Neo and Weiwen to share their testimonies. We can indeed see how both of them, initially without any drumming background before joining the Strikeforce, have grown in the ministry, and how it has changed their perspective towards the working world.
After that, we watched a video compilation of different drums & percussion presentation from STOMP to Recycled Percussion. Boon then gave a short speech and briefed the people on the Activities Sheet that everyone received.
Last but not least, we sang a fellowship song, “We’re a family that loves” and as we sealed our friendship with hugs, Boon closed the first Strikeforce gathering of 2009 with a prayer.
